The word samasthiti is derived from sanskrit words “Sama” meaning upright, straight or unmoved, and sthiti meaning standing still or steadiness.

In Samasthiti, hips are contracted, stomach pulled in and chest is opened up.

While performing this posture and ensuring the right alignment one should close her eyes and become aware of her breath.

In Samasthiti one should take a deep inhale and exhale and relax her body.

This asana can be performed at the beginning of yoga practice.

Benefits:

People are not careful about their standing posture. Putting entire weight on only one leg, or either toes or heels leads to a bad posture. Unequal distribution of body weight on both feet leads to certain deformities which hamper elasticity of spinal cord.
